As a Nyonya, Peranakan culture, especially kasut manek and kebaya, has always fascinated me. My passion for beaded shoes began with Angeline’s class at Strait Enclave.

Angeline is truly an exceptional teacher- her patience is boundless, her knowledge of Peranakan culture is profound, her generosity in sharing both her expertise and remarkable collection of vintage beads with her students is unparalleled. I am blessed to learn this cherished heritage craft from her.

I was captivated by the exquisite kasut manek when I first encountered it at the museum and during subsequent visits to Malacca. I resolved to acquire the skills necessary to craft a pair. Following an extensive search, I discovered her kasut manek classes and promptly enrolled.

My learning journey with her has been truly enriching. She is an exceptionally patient instructor, consistently willing to share her expertise in kasut manek.

Under her guidance, I have gained not only technical knowledge of beading but also a deeper understanding of Peranakan culture, history, and traditions. Angeline’s passion for her craft is evident, and she fosters a supportive and inclusive environment, encouraging students to express their creativity freely, thereby deriving a sense of accomplishment from transforming their designs into beautiful kasut manek.
